What is Glows and Grows?

When teachers talk about “glows and grows,” they’re really just talking about strengths and challenges. A glow is something you’re good at or proud of in your learning. A grow is an area where you could use a little more practice or improvement. Both are important because they help you celebrate what you do well while also setting goals for where you want to get better

Glows

Geometry Skills  & Algebra Confidence

One of my biggest glows in math has always been geometry. I enjoyed working with shapes, angles, and visual problems because they made sense to me, and I liked that I could picture the math in my head.

Another glow is algebra. I found it rewarding to solve equations and work through multi-step problems. Even when the problems were tricky, I usually felt confident once I got into the rhythm of solving them.

Current Mindset Glow

Today, I’d say one of my glows is having a positive mindset about learning math. I try to see challenges as opportunities to learn rather than something to be afraid of, and that keeps me motivated.

Grows

Remembering Basics

One area I’ve always struggled with is remembering basic facts, like multiplication tables and quick math facts. Sometimes forgetting those slowed me down, even when I understood the bigger concepts.

Current Mindset Grow

A grow for me right now is building more confidence in my math skills. I sometimes second-guess myself even when I know the right answer, so I’m working on trusting my knowledge and continuing to strengthen my math mindset.
